Muscat Festival boosts Oman's hotel industry

Travel News Asia 28 January 2003

Oman’s hotel industry is enjoying a boost in business, as a healthy flow of travellers from across the Gulf region stream to the Sultanate for the recently  launched Muscat Festival.

Organised by the Muscat Municipality for the third time this year, the five-week event features a variety of cultural activities for all the family, and aims to boost Oman’s image as a key tourist attraction in the Gulf region.

“Oman has a lot to offer tourists and events such as the Muscat Festival are crucial in establishing it as a key Gulf destination,” said Naji Abi Farah,  Director of Sales & Marketing at the Crowne Plaza Muscat. “The event is very important to us, we have put in a lot of hard work, and are now receiving very positive responses from our guests.”

“Our convenient location in the prestigious Qurum Heights area, will allow visitors to enjoy the Festival activities, yet not at the expense of comfort and relaxation,” he said.

Just 20 minutes away by car from Seeb International Airport, the Crowne Plaza Muscat is in the vicinity of Al Qurum Natural Park, one of the festival’s four official locations, tempting visitors with fireworks and stunt shows,  theatre performances, and an Omani heritage village.

Festival attractions include a children’s village at Al Naseem park, and an international folklore festival and trade exhibition at Festival Plaza, while  popular Middle East singers will be performing at the site at Al Athaiba Beach.

“We do our best to make the Muscat Festival an unforgettable experience for all our guests,” Abi Farah added. “We help them with visa arrangements on  request, and we also make sure everyone has a quality rest, so that they can indulge in as many activities as possible and experience the event to the fullest possible extend.”

The Crowne Plaza Muscat has 208 deluxe rooms, all offering commanding cliff top  views of the Gulf of Oman and the Hajar mountains. Diners can choose between Shiraz, Muscat’s only restaurant serving authentic Persian cuisine, Come Prima, one of the best Italian restaurants in town, also offering special executive speed lunches, and the Tropicana poolside restaurant, which features themed gastronomical nights every day of the week.
