InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has been recognised for its contribution to sport by Sport Industry Australia (SIA), which presented the Group with the 2003 Corporate Award of Distinction at its Annual General Meeting last week.

A peak body of the Australian sport industry, SIA works with Federal and State Governments to protect and promote the interests of sporting organisations. InterContinental Hotels Group was presented with the award to acknowledge the significant and vital difference that IHG’s sponsorships makes to national sporting organisations in Australia and for the support provided to SIA through the Group’s network of hotels throughout Australia.

IHG’s Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn brands sponsor a wide range of sports and sporting groups in Australia. For example, Crowne Plaza is the Official Accommodation Provider to the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) and the Wallabies, the V8 Supercar 00 Motorsport team, Netball Australia and Hockey Australia (incorporating the Hockeyroos and the Kookaburras). Holiday Inn is the Official Accommodation Provider to the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), National Basketball League (NBL), Womens National Basketball League (WNBL), Basketball Australia and the V8 Supercar Holden Racing Team.

“We are heavily involved in sport in Australia, and it is fantastic that the value of our many sponsorships has been recognised by Sport Industry Australia,” said InterContinental Hotels Group Director of Sales and Marketing for Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific, Jolyon Bulley.

“The exposure we have received through our sport sponsorships has contributed to the rising profile of our hotel brands in Australia, and in return, we have done everything we can to make a valuable contribution at all levels of the Australian sporting community. We look forward to seeing these mutually beneficial relationships continue,” Mr Bulley said.

Previous award recipients include Telstra, Commonwealth Bank, CUB, Qantas, Coca Cola Amatil, ANZ, Westfield, Mobil and McDonalds.
