Dubai World Trade Centre team to capitalise on heightened awareness of Dubai

Travel News Asia 26 September 2003

The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has announced comprehensive plans to promote Dubai International Convention Centre (DICC) following the successful hosting of the Annual Meetings of the Board of Governors of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund in the UAE.

"The DWTC will be participating at the upcoming Meetings and Incentive Travel Show (M&IT) on 8th and 9th of October in London, to showcase the DICC at the event that attracts over 600 exhibitors from the UK and overseas, including major hotel groups, individual hotels, convention bureaux/tourist offices, conference and event centres, academic institutions, sporting venues, transportation companies, technology suppliers, event organising agencies, corporate hospitality companies, insurance providers and industry associations among others," said DWTC Director General, Mubarak bin Fahad.

He noted that the DWTC would be exhibiting at this event under the umbrella of the International Convention Centres Association (ICCA) of which DWTC is a member. "As members of ICCA, the DWTC seeks to network with association executives and other meeting suppliers during M&IT," said Mr. bin Fahad. "ICCA is one of the most prominent organisations in the world of international meetings. It is the only association that comprises a membership representing the main specialists in handling, transporting and accommodating international events," he stressed.

To ensure that Dubai attracts more meetings and conferences, the DWTC participates in a series of events around the world that focus on the business travel segment including M&IT, EIBTM, WTM and several others along with the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

"The opening of the DICC and the successful staging of the World Bank/IMF meet has provided a boost to Dubai's status as a MICE destination. The new facility is big enough to accommodate events with up to 12,000 delegates and its main Sheikh Rashid Hall has the capacity to hold up to 6,000 people when set as an auditorium," remarked Mr. bin Fahad.

"The spotlight was focused on Dubai in the last couple of weeks and we will be capitalising on the heightened awareness generated through this event to project Dubai's image as a dynamic international centre and an ideal venue for the MICE sector," Mr. bin Fahad added.

Over the past decade Dubai has matured significantly and its infrastructure has embraced the meetings and exhibition sectors. With a new world-class convention centre that incorporates sophisticated technological solutions, managed by an organisation with more than two decades of experience in conducting and staging successful international events and exhibitions, DICC is well equipped to host many of the world's largest international meetings and conventions.

"We have just demonstrated that we have a superb high-tech infrastructure coupled with a highly experienced and professional team that can handle any kind of event to ensure that delegates are handled with care and professionalism," Mr. bin Fahad said.

The DICC is complemented by a variety of onsite accommodation options including the 412-room Novotel World Trade Centre, the 210-room Ibis World Trade Centre hotels and the Dubai International Hotel Apartments offering an additional 492 rooms all situated within the DWTC complex.
