Strato-Fantasia expected to resume this weekend

Travel News Asia 25 August 2003

The equipment of Strato-Fantasia was accidentally damaged during the period when Hong Kong was affected by Typhoon Krovanh. The contractor of Strato-Fantasia is now assessing and repairing the equipment before resetting it for the show. The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) said it is estimated that the performance can resume during this coming weekend.

HKTB followed closely the weather updates after the Hong Kong Observatory issued the tropical cyclone warnings on Friday 22 August. Upon receiving the Marine Department's notice on the possible issue of Typhoon Signal Number 3 on Saturday 23 August, the HKTB immediately established close contact with various Government departments  such as the Hong Kong Observatory and Marine Department and relocated the Strato-Fantasia equipment to the typhoon shelter. However, the performance equipment was accidentally damaged during the process.

The contractor is already working on the assessment and repair but owing to the time required and the need to reset the equipment prior to the performance, it is estimated that the performance cannot be resumed until this weekend. The HKTB intends to explore with the contractor the possibility of extending the show. Ever since the show commenced on 17 August, it has become a must-see attraction for both visitors and local residents.

In case the repair can be completed sooner and the performance can be held at an earlier date, the Hong Kong Tourism Board has said it will inform the public immediately. For further enquiries please contact  the HKTB Visitor Hotline at (852) 2508 1234.
