Dragonair's online auction heats up

Travel News Asia 18 November 2003

Dragonair's first-ever series of online auctions is attracting heated bidding by travellers looking to snap up a HK$9,000 spa or golf packages in Bangkok at a bargain price. Yesterday's opening auction attracted more than 2,000 bids.

The top five bidders each day win the package and are notified by email the following day. The auctions will continue until November 22 at www.dragonair.com, commencing at noon and concluding at 11:59pm.

"The first auction attracted a huge amount of interest, and we expect it to pick up as the week goes on as people realise that there's a real bargain to be had," said Andy Tung, General Manager, Marketing & Sales. "The response is so encouraging that we will probably be looking at doing similar online auctions in the future.

"While we're not revealing just how much the top bidders paid yesterday, I can tell you that they all got a bargain. With 25 packages left to be auctioned, there's still time to take part."

The three-day, two-night packages include two round-trip Economy Class tickets, two nights' accommodation at the JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok with breakfast, transfers by private car between the airport and the hotel and travel insurance. There is also a choice of a two-hour Rejuvenation spa session at the Banyan Tree Spa, Bangkok or two rounds of golf, including green and caddie fees, at the 18-hole championship course of the Bangkok Golf Club.

In order to bid in the auctions, participants must first register at www.dragonair.com, providing their name, contact number, address and a contact email. The auctions are open to holders of valid Hong Kong Identity cards who are over 18 years of age. Participants need to register only once to bid at any of the auctions, and may make as many bids as they want, but only their highest bid will be eligible to win.
