British Airways and Qantas launch promotion for travellers in Singapore

Travel News Asia 1 July 2003

Qantas and British Airways have launched an attractive airfare promotion worth over a quarter of a million dollars to encourage Singaporeans to take to the skies again. The airlines have teamed up with 12 partners from hotels, retail outlets, travel agencies, restaurants, gyms and spas - all working together to help stimulate business and emerge from the economic gloom.

Themed 'It's time for a more rewarding journey', the airlines' latest promotion is part of a global campaign that has been launched to spread the message that it is time to fly again. In Singapore, customers purchasing Qantas and British Airways flights to any destination, on any class of travel from 1 July to 30 September 2003 will receive a passport of rewards at point of purchase for use within the country and elsewhere. Even those purchasing special promotion tickets will be eligible for the passport of goodies, which are valid till 31 October 2003.

Mr Stephen Thompson, regional general manager for Qantas and British Airways South East Asia, said, "Qantas and British Airways supports the various activities and campaigns organised by the Singapore Tourism  Board and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore to encourage Singaporeans to come out of their homes and enjoy life as it used to be in a socially responsible manner. This includes travelling out of country for most Singaporeans as well. Qantas and British Airways' lifestyle-packaged promotion acts as a trigger mechanism to attract travellers back in the air and to kick-start consumer spending among Singaporeans.

"We feel it is important to involve other non-travel industries in our promotion to not only revive the enthusiasm for air travel but also encourage Singaporeans to do what they love most - eating out, shopping, going for spas. We hope our efforts will create a top-of-mind brand awareness, induce  trial of products and drive sales for all partners as well as help towards improving Singapore's economy across all business sectors."
