China Southern Airlines to add flights from Sydney

Travel News Asia 13 October 2003

China Southern Airlines is to introduce a fourth weekly flight from Sydney to Guangzhou to accommodate peak season demand from December to February.

The additional service, to operate every Saturday from 13 December to 7 February, follows the airline’s recent decision to resume a third weekly service from Australia to China.

China Southern currently operates Boeing 777-200 services from Melbourne and Sydney every Tuesday and Thursday, and from Sydney only every Sunday.

The aircraft are configured to seat 290 passengers in a three-class cabin – 18 in Premium Business Class, 65 in Business Class and 207 in Economy Class. Every passenger has a personal video screen and an IDD satellite telephone.

“The fourth weekly flight will help accommodate the peak period traffic between Australia and China during the summer holidays in Australia,” said Ms Annie Ye, China Southern’s General Manager Australia.

“Although this is a seasonal addition to our schedule, we are keen to expand our services between Australia and Guangzhou as consumer confidence returns and demand continues to grow.”

The additional flights provide another opportunity for travellers to take advantage of China Southern’s popular “Buy one, get one free” Business Class fare from Australia to China, valid until 31 March next year.

For A$2,790, including all local taxes, two people can travel from Melbourne or Sydney to Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

For an extra A$200, both passengers can also fly Economy Class from Guangzhou to either Beijing or Shanghai, or for an extra A$500 – a total fare of A$3,280 – both passenger can fly Business Class on the domestic sectors.

Seats are limited at these prices and some conditions apply.
