SkyTeam and Coca-Cola launch joint Advertising Sponsorships

Travel News Asia 12 November 2003

SkyTeam and Coca-Cola announced today they will jointly sponsor a number of programs aimed at business travelers on select global broadcast networks.

The sponsorships include the airing of five-second promotional spots that reinforce the partnership between SkyTeam and Coca-Cola, which began in 2002. The first phase of advertising begins airing this week in a number SkyTeam key markets during weather segments on CNN (United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia), CNN (United States, Europe and Asia) and BBC World (worldwide).

“We are delighted to launch a campaign that provides worldwide exposure for the alliance, Coca-Cola and our partnership,” said Rachel McCarthy, leader of SkyTeam’s communications working group. “Since we both cater to the global traveler, the widely-viewed weather segments are ideal forums for our sponsorship.”

The landmark 2002 agreement between SkyTeam and Coca-Cola included provisions for cross-promotional marketing efforts between the alliance and the soft drink giant, bolstered by a fund dedicated to joint sponsorship initiatives. Created by BETC Euro RSCG, the current campaign is scheduled to run through December.

“SkyTeam realizes that travelers need easy access to certain pre-trip information,” said McCarthy. “Be it destination advice on skyteam.com, or weather forecasts on television, the alliance is committed to making travel more convenient for our passengers.”

SkyTeam is a global airline alliance partnering Aeroméxico, Air France, Alitalia, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Korean Air.
