Pei-Yuan Chia joins Singapore Airlines' Board

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has appointed Mr Pei-Yuan Chia as a Board member with effect from 1 October 2003.

Mr Chia is a former Vice Chairman and Director of Citicorp and Citibank, N.A. Before his retirement in 1996, he was responsible for global consumer business and was Citibank's senior customer and government contact in Asia. He had begun his Citibank career in 1974 in the Consumer Services Group.

He is a director on the Boards of American International Group, Inc (AIG) and Baxter International, Inc. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of NYU Hospitals Center.

Being a consumer-oriented organization with interests in developing its business in the strategically important China market, SIA will benefit from Mr Chia's extensive consumer background and business network in China.

Mr Chia, who was born in Hong Kong in 1939, was raised in China and Taiwan. He holds a BA degree in Economics from Tunghai University, Taiwan, and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is now a Senior Fellow of the Wharton Business School's SEI Centre for Advanced Studies in Management.
