'Tao of Detox' to be held at The Layan, Phuket

Travel News Asia 10 February 2003

During the last week of February, The Layan, a Sanctuary Resort in northern Phuket, will organize a series of seminar classes for its guests hosted by renowned practitioner of Chinese Medicine and author of numerous books on Health, Daniel Reid.

The Layan will, in close collaboration with Daniel and his wife Snow, provide the opportunity for in-house guests as well as non-residents to participate in free of charge seminar sessions on the Tao of Detox. Tao of Detoix is a method to heal and detoxify the human body, and participants will be able to enjoy the healing effects of the treatments by sampling the new treatment in the resort’s spa.

Daniel studied Chinese Medicine, Chi Gung, Meditation and other aspects of traditional Chinese and Taoist treatments in Taiwan for eighteen years. He  studied under tutelage of Chinese Masters and has written various international bestsellers on the topics he studied.

His wife Snow is a highly skilled healing energy therapist and meditator and works and practises alongside her husband.

The series of seminars and treatments follows last December’s successful event of Shiatsu Master in Residence “Terrie Liew” and Sanctuary Resorts plans more Master of Residence programs in the near future.

Explaining the program in February, Michel van der Hoeven, who heads the regional office of Sanctuary Resorts, states “Dan and Snow, will be with us until the end of February. They have graciously agreed to share their knowledge and skills with the resorts’ guests and we feel our guests will benefit from their extensive knowledge and reputation through private classes and seminar sessions. Dan is amongst the most renowned masters in his field and his books sell all throughout Asia and the Pacific. Conducting classes in Phuket will provide people with the opportunity to sample his skills in a secluded, beach front location ”.

This program the completion of the first phase of repositioning the resort. This involved adding sunken bathtubs to the deluxe rooms, renovation of public areas as well as completion of an air-conditioned Thai restaurant as well as an extensive mediation and yoga room at the beach front.

Andrew Jones, Guardian and founder of Sanctuary Resorts explained the concepts of “Masters in Residence” as “programs to balance the body, mind and spirit in a sustainable and responsible way, are key elements to the Sanctuary Resorts’ experience. By having a regular master or artist in residence, the resort’s guests can benefit from new experiences, learn new things and generally improve on their life style. The “Masters in Residence” will in future include arts, treatments, experiential training, speakers and other programs that guest’s tell us they have an interest participating in ”.

The resort has tailored various packages around the seminars and details and  rates can be obtained through the resort.

Sanctuary Resorts has said it will implement similar initiatives in its other resorts The Bale, in Bali and Hotel de la Paix, in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
