Korean Air has implemented a zonal
boarding system for all economy class passengers on domestic and
international routes.
The airline previously used to board customers by
row number, but will now instead use zonal boarding which it is
hoped will help with social distancing requirements.
Both systems are very common with airlines around
the world as they help to ensure that passengers seated at
the back of the aircraft are boarded first.
Korean Air's planes will be subdivided into three
or four
zones depending on their size, and the zone number will be clearly printed on
passengers’ boarding passes.
While rear row passengers are to board
first, passengers with infants or children, the elderly and those
needing special assistance, will be permitted to pre-board
regardless of their zone.
To emphasize social distancing measures that are
in place, there will also be floor markers at the gate floor for
international flights so that passengers can keep their distance
while waiting to board the aircraft.
Passengers and employees are required to wear face masks
and Korean Air conducts temperature checks on passengers on all of
its flights.
