The HKTB said it made the decision "after careful consideration" on Wednesday, as large protests in the Admiralty and Central districts of Hong Kong turned violent.

The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival attracts thousands of visitors and paddlers from around the region, and is one of the most popular dragon boat events in the world.

The HKTB said it will inform the travel trade and visitors of the "relevant arrangements through various channels".
