Over 1,200 Players from 13 Countries to Compete in Mega Ice Hockey 5s in Hong Kong

Ice hockey warriors from all over the world will travel to Hong Kong to compete in the Mega Ice Hockey 5s from 25 April to 7 May 2016.

Over 1,200 players from nearly 80 teams and 13 countries and cities will participate in the Mega Ice Hockey 5s at Mega Ice, Hong Kong’s only international-sized ice rink, re-confirming the tournament’s status as the largest and most competitive ice hockey competition in Asia.

The crowd will get to enjoy another festival of non-stop ice hockey action, in one of the world’s fastest sports.

Last year’s International A champions Pandoo Nation from Singapore will defend their crown, while popular local heroes including Gold Club, HK Hitmen and Nordic Vikings seek to dethrone them.

Some Adult Divisions new faces including HC Toussaint from Canada, Les Becteurs from France, Eisbrecher Ratingen from Germany, Kaohsiung Rapid Eagle, International North Starts and ROC Sports Typhoon from Taiwan and more will look to make their mark on the event.

1,200 skilled players from Canada, France, Germany, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Japan, Kaohsiung, Singapore, Shanghai, Taipei, Thailand, Tianjin, Wuhan will compete in the 2016 tournament.

Since its inception, the Mega Ice Hockey 5s has become renowned as the premier ice hockey event in Asia. The tournament is the largest ice hockey event in the region and has once again received special recognition from Brand Hong Kong, having first received the award in 2012, and become part of the “Appreciate Hong Kong” campaign this year.

The Youth Divisions will compete between 25-30 April and Adult Division will be 2-7 May. The two Youth Divisions Final (Peewee Division A and Bantam Division A) and three Adult Divisions Finals (International A, International B and Asian A) will be live streamed for the first time. Fans will be able to enjoy the fierce ice hockey action on on.cc sports live broadcast channel and Mega Ice Hockey 5s YouTube channel.

Each division’s Most Valuable Player will be awarded a Bauer luxury ice hockey stick sponsored by HockeyPanda.com.

Members of the public can name “Your Favourite Ice Hockey Team” and have the chance to win over HK$10,000 souvenirs, and fans can also take part in Facebook campaigns “Mega Ice Hockey 5s Creativity” and “Mega Ice Hockey 5s Q&A”, where they have the chance to win limited MIH5s souvenirs worth nearly HK$30,000 in total.

A women’s showcase event will take place when WIHO Angels take on WIHO Saints on 7 May. The Youth tournament is title sponsored by the Hong Kong Amateur Hockey Club.
