Luke Mangan to Showcase Culinary Skills Eastern & Oriental Express Asia

Belmond has partnered with Australian Chef and restaurateur, Luke Mangan.

The first hosted journey takes place on 28th October 2016 from Singapore to Bangkok on board the Eastern & Oriental Express train in Asia.

In partnership with Eastern & Oriental Express’ Executive Chef, Yannis Martineau, Luke Mangan, and his team based in Singapore, will showcase his culinary skills as they serve up their signature menus aboard Asia’s most luxurious train.

In Singapore, guests are invited to join Luke for a morning tour of a food market before boarding the train for the three-day, two-night journey that will travel through Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Once on board the train, Luke will meet with guests as well as hosting a signing of his latest book ‘Salt Grill, Fine Dining for the whole family’. On day two of the journey, Luke takes up the challenge of serving the specially created menus from the train’s galley kitchens to guests in the elegant dining cars.

Eastern & Oriental Express train carries just 82 guests in all en-suite air-conditioned cabins with two dining cars, a lively bar car and outdoor observation car from which to enjoy the scenic landscapes of South East Asia.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Luke and his team aboard Eastern & Oriental Express – Luke shares our vision for creating exceptional experiences for our guests so it’s going to be a really exciting partnership. It takes a unique skill to prepare such excellent cuisine in a train’s small and moving galley kitchen,” said Nicolas Pillet, General Manager, Eastern & Oriental Express.

With 19 restaurants and key partnerships with cruise lines, an airline and now a train, Luke Mangan has firmly established himself as a leading figure on the international culinary scene. His passion for developing the hospitality skills of young chefs, waiters and restaurateurs led him to forming Australia’s largest hospitality programme the ‘Appetite for Excellence’.

“My team and I are absolutely thrilled to have partnered with Eastern & Oriental Express and are looking forward to now evolving our Salt Grill restaurant experience from being on shore and at sea, to on board one of Belmond’s luxury trains. We want to ensure our customers have access to the best food and beverage experiences around the world. To now be part of the Eastern & Oriental family is undoubtedly a very exciting period of our business and brand,” Luke said.

Prices start from USD2,820 / GBP1,861 per person for the 3 day/2 night journey based on two people sharing a Pullman cabin and including all table d’hote meals.
