ICC Sydney Encourages Taxis to Explore Rejuvenated Darling Harbour Area

Taxis in Sydney are being encouraged to explore the rejuvenated Darling Harbour area, with International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) hosting two Taxi Days this week to familiarise drivers with the best access points for Australia’s newest convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct.

Located in the heart of Darling Harbour, at the original address of the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, the taxi drop off and pick up locations include the new Iron Wharf Place and Zollner Circuit, which are accessed via Darling Drive.

Geoff Donaghy, CEO of ICC Sydney, said the Taxi Days are a critical component of the operational testing currently taking place to ensure the venue is functioning to a world class benchmark ahead of its December opening.

“The development of ICC Sydney has presented a great opportunity to revitalise the local area and its integration within the broader city. With additional streets and access points, it is vital for our city’s taxis to get to know the new lay of the land,” said Mr Donaghy. “Hundreds of thousands of visitors are set to descend upon ICC Sydney every year and this practice run will ensure our taxi drivers can help the city deliver an exceptional, end to end experience for all visitors and delegates.”

As part of the Operational Readiness Plan, ICC Sydney commences its full schedule of test events hosting no less than 25 non-commercial test events for industry and stakeholders, including meetings and evening ceremonies, as well as a packed schedule of room set ups and client site inspections.

ICC Sydney has already secured over 380 events and is expected to provide at least $5 billion dollars in economic benefit to New South Wales over the next 25 years.

ICC Sydney Taxi Days will take place on today (10 October) from 10am-1pm, and Thursday, 13 October 3pm-5pm.
