Since registrations opened in September last year, more than a thousand runners have booked their slot to run in the 10th edition of the Laguna Phuket International Marathon (LPIM) on 7 June 2015.

This represents a year-on-year increase of 20% compared to the same time period last year.

Entries will be open until the end of May, but with the increase in early registrations, the organizers expect the total entry limit of 6,000 runners to be reached before the entry deadline.

Events Director Roman Floesser from organizer Go Adventure Asia, said, “Running is booming in Thailand right now and this is not only reflected in the sharp increase in entries for our event, but can be seen at other major running events in all over the country which are all selling out at record pace now. It is great to see how more and more people are getting into the sports and enjoy the social and health benefits that come with participation in sports.”

Apart from the marathon, there will be a half marathon, 10.5km Run, a 5km Community Walk as well as a 2km Kids run, giving everyone an opportunity to participate. All races start and finish at Laguna Grove, Laguna Phuket.

The LPIM started in 2006 with Laguna Phuket being the host and title sponsor of the event since its inception. From its humble beginnings with less than 2,000 participants the event has grown to a size of more than 5,000 participants representing Thailand and more than 50 countries around the world.

LPIM is currently Thailand’s 2nd largest international marathon event to ever reach over 1,000 participants in the full marathon (42Km) category.

“Laguna Phuket has been the proud title sponsor of the ever-growing sports event since its inaugural launch in 2006,” said Mr. Ravi Chandran, Managing Director of Laguna Phuket. “In addition to the vibrant and energetic ambience the Laguna Phuket International Marathon brings to our destination each year, the event has been a great platform to raise funds for Laguna Phuket Foundation, supporting the worthy cause of implementing sustainable social programmes. It is a meaningful way for our thousands of athletes from all over the world to leave a positive impact on Phuket and the surrounding areas.”
