Cycling enthusiast Craig Trevallion has swapped
his 20-year career as a police officer to work as the Cycling Coordinator at Lake
Crackenback Resort & Spa in the New South Wales Snowy Mountains.
The growth in the popularity of mountain biking prompted Lake
Crackenback Resort & Spa to create the position and have tasked Craig
with increasing the profile of cycling in the region and create new
cycling programmes for mountain bikers as well as road riders.
Craig has been involved in cycling for more than
25 years as a down-hill and cross country specialist as well as a
			  road racer.
“Cycling has taken me to many places around the
world and I look forward to sharing my experience and enthusiasm
with holidaymakers and conference delegates at Lake Crackenback
Resort & Spa,” said Craig. “If I can encourage a guest to get on
to a bike and develop their skills while they have fun, I believe
they will get hooked. The sport is so rewarding and the
opportunity of helping people to achieve their own rewards, at
whatever level they are at, means that every day at work will be a
			  great one.”
In recent years, Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa
has invested significantly in cycling by developing a dedicated
skills park and pump and flow track, maintaining more than 21km of
mountain bike terrain and attracting major events like the
			  Australian Cross Country Triathlon Championships.
“The investment in infrastructure combined with
the appointment of a dedicated cycling role is expected to open up
a new era of tourism in the region,” said Lake Crackenback Resort
& Spa, General Manager, Anthony Cleary. “The opening of the new Thredbo Valley Track now
provides direct off-road access between Thredbo Resort and Lake
Crackenback Resort & Spa for mountain bike riders and walkers.”
The resort has also upgraded its fleet of
hire mountain bikes to state-of-the-art Specialized brand bicycles
to cater for the more serious cyclist.
“We easily have the most sophisticated and
well-equipped mountain bike hire facility of any resort in
Australia. Many amateur cyclists come here to try the Specialized
bikes before they invest in one of their own,” Mr Cleary added.
Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa supports three
champion mountain biking ambassadors including BMX and mountain
bike superstar, five-time world champion and London 2012 Olympic
Games finalist Caroline Buchanan plus mountain biking legend and
marathon champion Andy Blair and dual national marathon champion,
Jenny Fay who holds both the Australian and Irish titles.
