The 2015 ISA World StandUp Paddle and Paddleboard Championship (WSUPPC) will be held in Sayulita, Riviera Nayarit, from 10 to 17 May.

It’s the first time the International Surfing Association (ISA) World Championship will take place in Mexico.

The ISA WSUPPC has witnessed explosive growth since the inaugural event in 2012, having nearly tripled in athlete participation from 105 to 277 and grown from 17 to 27 countries in its first three editions in all divisions.

Riviera Nayarit offers 192 miles of Pacific coastline with many incredible destinations for StandUp Paddle (SUP) Racing and Surfing. Sayulita is considered the epicenter of Mexico’s SUP community.

ISA President, Fernando Aguerre, said, “Sayulita will be an ideal venue for the best SUP Surfers, SUP Racers, and Paddleboarders in the world to gather and compete for gold. We are grateful for the dedication and hard work of Luis Skeen, the President of the Mexican Surfing Federation, and Alfredo Salafranca, Director of SUP, for making this event possible. We look forward to a long relationship between Mexico and the ISA.”

More than 300 of the world’s greatest watermen from over 30 countries will compete in 11 different disciplines for the coveted Club Waikiki-Peru ISA World Team Champion Trophy and the individual Gold Medals.

The 2015 ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship will include Men’s and Women’s SUP Surfing, SUP Technical Race, SUP Distance Race, Paddleboard Technical Race, Paddleboard Distance Race, and the Team Relay Race.

“We are very excited to welcome the ISA World Championship for its first championship in Mexico. This is an historic moment for Riviera Nayarit,” said Richard Zarkin, Public Relations Director of Riviera Nayarit Conventions and Visitors Bureau. “The growth of SUP – attracting thousands of spectators and top caliber professional athletes – has certainly propelled the region, especially Sayulita, into becoming a top surfing and SUP destination. Moreover, given the region’s miles of pristine coastline offering excellent conditions for an array of outdoor pursuits coupled with year-round events and attractions, it’s no surprise that many have chosen to vacation in Riviera Nayarit or even call the destination their second home.”
