Cobham has won an order from Gogo for approximately 150 composite radomes to be part of Gogo’s 2Ku next generation satellite connectivity service.

Work under this contract will be performed by Cobham Integrated Electronic Solutions, a business unit of the Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions sector, in Baltimore, Maryland.

“Cobham has partnered with Gogo to develop an in-flight connectivity radome that maximizes RF performance while minimizing weight and drag. The radome’s ultra-low profile design can save airlines tens of thousands of dollars annually over competing solutions,” said Jill Kale, President of Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions. “Since 1966, Cobham has combined advanced design capabilities with innovative materials to provide radomes for challenging military applications. We are now leveraging that capability to design and manufacture composite radomes for the latest commercial aerospace communications applications. The 2Ku radome recently successfully completed Federal Aviation Administration lightning, bird strike, and materials testing and this order is the latest milestone in Cobham and Gogo’s successful partnership.”

2Ku, Gogo's next generation satellite technology, is expected to deliver peak speeds of more than 70 Mbps to the aircraft, which is more than 20 times the bandwidth provided by Gogo's first generation Air to Ground solution in the U.S..

Recently, Delta Air Lines selected Gogo to outfit Delta’s narrowbody aircraft serving long-haul domestic, Latin American and Caribbean routes with Gogo’s 2Ku technology.
