The Alila Diwa Goa, on Majorda Beach in South Goa, has launched a new Ayurveda detox program with retreats led and designed by Dr. Arjita Kumari, the resort’s permanent in-house expert.

The Ayurveda ‘Detox Detour’ programme at Spa Alila is an holistic approach towards balancing the physical, physiological and psychological.

Over a course of a week, all aspects of health and wellbeing are covered, with each element of the retreat completely customised depending on the needs of the individual.

To begin the programme, guests will undergo an in-depth consultation, covering nutrition, health and stress, followed by sessions of pranic healing, hypnotherapy, daily yoga, meditation and exercise. This will be combined with nutritionally balanced meals, juices and Ayurvedic supplements, daily workshops, massages and cooking classes. All elements have been put in place to ensure that post retreat; participants are armed with the skills to create an on-going, all encompassing, life change.

Ayurveda is an ancient system of Indian medicine; its practises are based around the human body - which is made up of five basic elements - ether, air, fire, water and earth. These five components are used to create Doshas, of which there are three different types, with each person falling into one of three categories. Vatha Dosha is the combination of ether and air, Pitta Dosha is the combination of fire and water and Kapha Dosha is the combination of water and earth.

The dosha of the guest will dictate their programme, as each person will require different exercises, treatments and diet. Diet plays an important part in the process; the Ayurveda diet focuses on fresh seasonal produce, without pesticides, additives and other chemicals, all sourced as locally as possible.

The diet is based around clean eating, supplemented by a range of detoxifying and rejuvenating juices throughout the day.

Dr. Arjita Kumari recently joined Alila Diwa Goa as the resort’s permanent in-house expert. She has a Bachelor's degree in Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery, with over eight years’ experience in the field. In addition she is a qualified Shivananda yoga teacher, hypnotherapist and Ayurveda dietician. She’s also skilled in Pranic healing, which is an energy healing system.

Prices for the three-night retreat start from Sin$1,265 (US$948) ++ for single occupancy and Sin$1,647 (US$1,234) ++ for double occupancy, inclusive of accommodation in Diwa Room, body composition analysis, body measurements, one consultation with the ayurveda physician, one consultation with the diet and nutrition specialist, six holistic and Ayurveda treatments per person, three fitness sessions, three yoga and meditation sessions, guided meditation, informative interactions and workshops, nutritionally balanced meals, relaxing and calming drinks, healthy cooking workshop and healing bath setup.
