786 Hotels / 197,414 Rooms Under Contract in MEA

According to the November 2015 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report, there are 501 hotels totalling 144,321 rooms Under Contract in the Middle East and 285 hotels totalling 53,093 rooms Under Contract in Africa.

The Under Contract total in the Middle East subcontinent represents a 30.1% increase in rooms Under Contract compared with November 2014 and a 57.0% year-on-year increase in rooms under construction. The Middle East reported 82,446 rooms in 253 hotels under construction for the month.

The Under Contract total in the Northern Africa and Southern Africa subcontinents represents a 30.2% increase in rooms Under Contract compared with November 2014 and a 34.1% year-on-year increase in rooms under construction. Africa reported 27,095 rooms in 151 hotels under construction for the month.

Among the countries in the Middle East and Africa, Saudi Arabia reported the most rooms under construction with 34,415 rooms in 72 hotels. United Arab Emirates followed with 27,458 rooms in 94 hotels.

Four other countries each reported more than 3,000 rooms In Construction: Qatar (6,976 rooms in 29 hotels), Egypt (3,934 rooms in 13 hotels), Morocco (3,143 rooms in 17 hotels) and Jordan (3,055 rooms in nine hotels).

Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.
