Our Telekom has become the principle sponsor of the Solomon Islands National Tourism Forum (NTF) scheduled in Honiara for 29 August.

As part of the agreement with the Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau (SIVB) and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Our Telekom will have exclusive naming rights for the event, the first of its kind to ever take place in the Solomon Islands.

Presenting a cheque for SLD100,000 (around US$ 13,900) to the NTF organising committee in Honiara on Tuesday, Our Telekom CEO, Loyley Ngira said he was delighted to be supporting such an important event.

“As the Solomon Islands largest mobile communications network Our Telekom is very excited to announce its commitment as a principal sponsor of the NTF,” Mr Ngira said. “We are aware of how communications have become an integral part of local tourism in this day and age. We also recognise the role tourism plays in the overall development of the nation’s economy. In keeping with the SIVB’s ‘Step Change’ approach, we too have decided to take a ‘Step Change’ and help do our part for the national good by becoming involved in the event as a major sponsor.”

Director of Tourism and chairman of the planning committee, Barney Sivoro said Our Telekom’s backing represented a significant development for the industry.

“We really could not have asked for a bigger or better partner and we are extremely grateful to Our Telekom for that support,” he said. SIVB CEO, Josefa ‘Jo’ Tuamoto said it was very exciting to see such a major player investing in the local tourism industry. This is a most significant partnership and one that truly reflects the potential Our Telekom sees in the Solomon Islands’ tourism future, both on the national and international stage.”

The Our Telekom National Tourism Forum will take place at the Heritage Park Hotel.
