The contract to build the new access road into the current Terminal 1 and 2 precinct at Perth Airport has been awarded to Brierty Limited.

Airport Drive is a 1.6-kilometre road that will connect Perth Airport to the Tonkin/Leach Highway interchange, which is currently under construction as part of the Gateway WA project. This major freeway-to-freeway interchange will be the primary access point for passenger traffic for Terminals 1 and 2 when complete in 2015.

“Airport Drive is a significant project valued at $28.5 million and includes the $17 million civil works contract awarded to Brierty under a competitive select tender process as well as design, landscaping and associated works,” said Brad Geatches, Chief Executive Officer, Perth Airport. “Brierty has a long standing relationship with Perth Airport, having completed previous civil works such as car parks, major road intersections, internal link roads and expansion works across the airport estate.”

The construction of Airport Drive is part of an extensive redevelopment program that includes extending the Terminal 1 (T1) forecourt to create an entry plaza, new pick-up and drop-off lanes and expanding the short term car park.

“While much of the work taking place will not impact the customer journey, when required, a detailed traffic management plan will be implemented to ensure ease of access to Terminals 1 and 2 is maintained at all times,” said Mr Geatches. “With Virgin Australia relocating their domestic services to the new pier at the western end of T1 in 2015, completion of these works will ensure an improved customer experience for all passengers.”

Work will commence this month and is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2015.
