Sheraton Zhuhai Appoints Key Members of Management Team

Sheraton Zhuhai Hotel has added the following three people to its management team as the 548-room hotel prepares for its opening in November 2014.

Chef Ray Liew will take the helm as Director of Culinary; Cathy Li comes onboard as the new Director of Rooms, while Vivien Wei is the new Director of Human Resources.

“We are thrilled to add three seasoned Starwood veterans to our team,” said Sunny Heng, general manager of Sheraton Zhuhai Hotel. “Sheraton Zhuhai Hotel will be a preferred gathering place for visitors to the area and business travelers attending conventions, and our opening team will ensure that our culinary offerings and guest experience are the gold standards for the region.”

Vivien Wei – Director of Human Resources, Security & Operational Excellence

A member of the Starwood family since 2005, Ms. Wei will bring her extensive experience in the hospitality industry and her exceptional abilities for developing strong efficient teams to her role as Director of Human Resources, Security & Operational Excellence. She will be in charge of hiring and overseeing a staff of 400 persons and ensuring that associates are trained to create a warm and welcoming environment for guests, also hotel Security and Operation Excellence works.

The Shenzhen native graduated from Guangxi Teachers’ University with a degree in English Literature and speaks fluent English along with Cantonese and Mandarin. Wei’s early hospitality and management experience includes posts at Shangri-La Hotel Fuzhou, Shangri-La Hotel Shenzhen, Shangri-La Hotel Dalian, Crowne Plaza Hotel Xiamen, and Shangri-La Hotel, Beihai.

Wei joined the Starwood in 2005 at the Sheraton Dongguan Hotel, where she developed a competitive salary structure to attract high-caliber hotel staff. In 2006, she joined the Westin Guanzhou and, over four years, effectively controlled labor costs by implementing lean productivity measures. She joined the opening team of The Westin Pazhou Guangzhou where she was instrumental in assessing operational challenges and improving efficiencies. While there, she was honored with the 2011 Outstanding HR Leader in China award from Starwood. In 2012, she brought her expertise to The Westin Sanya Haitang Bay Resort, a five-star property where managed human resources and operations.

Chef Ray Liew – Director of Culinary

With extensive experience managing the food and beverage operations at several five-star and luxurious brand hotels, Chef Liew is perfectly suited to develop and execute the culinary vision for Sheraton Zhuhai Hotel.

A Malaysian national, Chef Liew launched his career in Singapore where he trained with several European Michelin-starred chefs and learned the art of fine French cuisine.

Chef Liew joined the Starwood in 2003 family at Prego, the signature Italian restaurant at the Westin Kuala Lumpur Hotel & Residences. Demonstrating mastery in French, Italian and Asian cuisine, Chef Liew moved to the One & Only Le Touessrok before rejoining Starwood in 2007 as a member of the opening team for The Westin Dhaka in Bangladesh. He worked at The Westin Pune, Koregaon Park in Maharashtra, India a five-star hotel with 277 rooms and six food & beverage outlets until 2010, when he joined the Sheraton Tianjin Hotel as Executive Chef where he led a team of 85 members at this 298-room five-star hotel. He then moved to The Westin Xiamen.

At Sheraton Zhuhai Hotel, Chef Liew will oversee the hotel’s five culinary experiences as well as the development and launch of Color Your Plate by Sheraton Fitness by Core Performance. Sheraton’s innovative program to help guests achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle during their travels includes branded menus that feature local, colorful fruits and vegetables with key nutrients to maintain perfect dietary balance.

Cathy Li – Director of Rooms

As a ten-year operational veteran of Starwood hotels, and specifically larger hotels that cater to business guests, Ms. Li has extensive experience across several Starwood brands. Li launched her career in 1999 at the New World Courtyard Shenyang Hotel, a large 368-room business hotel. She joined the Starwood family in 2002 managing the front office at Sheraton Shenyang Lido Hotel, a 590-room hotel in the heart of Shenyang. In 2010, she was named Director of Rooms on the executive team responsible for opening the St. Regis Sanya Yalong Bay Resort, the largest St. Regis hotel in the world. In 2013, she was appointed to the opening team for the Le Meridien Yixing Hotel, a 270-room hotel that caters to business travelers.
