Mr. Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Asia Aviation (AAV) Plc. and Thai AirAsia, said that AAV’s returns, in spite of political turbulence during the end of the year, still saw satisfactory growth with total revenue of Baht 23,485 million and net profit (owners of the parent) Baht 1,043 million, increased by 25% comparing to the same period last year due to Thai AirAsia’s expansion.

“Thai AirAsia continued to operate according to plan during the past year. It acquired another 8 aircraft for its fleet, bringing the total to 35 by year’s end and increased flight frequencies on popular routes as well as opened a total of 6 new routes, which included; Don Mueang to Khon Kaen, Phitsanulok, Siem Reap (Cambodia) and Kunming (China) and Krabi to Singapore as well as Chiang Mai to Krabi. During the latter half of the year the airline also added new opportunities for service with the City Transfer to Pai (for flights landing in Chiang Mai) and Sukhothai (for flights landing in Phitsanulok) as well as Fly Thru service at Don Mueang Airport, which helped to attract foreign travelers looking to go beyond Bangkok” said Mr. Tassapon.

In 2013, Thai AirAsia also focused on the domestic market. The airline achieved a domestic passenger service number of 6.4 million people, reaffirming its leadership in the low-cost carrier market. For the entire year, the airline served 10.5 million people, exceeding its target.

The company’s service target for 2014 is 13.3 million people or 27% more than in 2013.
