Starwood has signed a Sheraton hotel on Koh Samui, Thailand’s second largest island after Phuket.

The agreement with TCC Hotels Group, a member of the TCC Land Group, marks the conversion of the existing 141-room Imperial Samui Beach Resort to a Sheraton, anticipated to take place by December 2014.

Approximately a 15-minute drive from Koh Samui International Airport, Sheraton Samui Resort sits on Chaweng Noi Beach, one of the most beautiful and longest stretches of white sandy beach on the east coast of Koh Samui. The town of Chaweng is just 3-km away.

“Starwood has developed a conversion-friendly strategy for existing hotels to meet the demands of owners and guests. With our powerful platforms, we are able to help our partners reposition existing assets in a cost-effective manner. Given that many are well-located but under-branded hotels, they present untapped opportunities for Starwood and is another channel for our growth. Thailand has already seen three conversions in the past few years,” said Matthew Fry, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Development, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Asia Pacific.

On completion of the rebranding works, all 141 guest rooms will feature the signature Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Bed with a plush mattress and luxurious sheets. In addition, the resort will open the brand’s signature Shine Spa for Sheraton and also include a well-equipped gym with the brand's health and fitness program, Sheraton Fitness by Core Performance.

Sheraton Samui Resort will also feature a Kids’ Club and Feast, the brand’s all-day dining concept; alongside a plethora of dining venues including the beach and pool bars, Sky Light Lounge and Tara Restaurant. Guests will be able to enjoy the resort’s swimming pools – a fresh water swimming pool and the salt water swimming pool that offers views of the Gulf of Thailand.

Sheraton Samui Resort is the newest addition to Starwood’s portfolio of 23 properties in Thailand under eight of its brands.

The hotel is the 7th property managed by Starwood under the ownership of TCC Hotels Group.
