Amadeus has received approval from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) certification within China.

Amadeus’ IATA BSP certification in China means that Amadeus is one step closer to allowing authorised travel agents the ability to fulfill the entire billing and ticketing process of travel products offered by foreign BSP airlines.

“Granting us this certification allows us to do what we do best—bring superior technology, speed, efficiency and financial savings to travel agents. And we’re excited to expand our capabilities within China,” said Managing Director for Amadeus Greater China, Bart Tompkins. “We thank IATA for their support of advancing technological capabilities within the travel industry.”

Amadeus’ IATA BSP certification brings many benefits for travel agents using Amadeus in mainland China. With IATA BSP, ticketing is simplified with electronic ticketing, billing and collection. Reporting and remittances are consolidated, and quality control is improved overall with a streamlined, electronic system.

Sandeep Bahl, Chairman of the Board of Airline Representatives in China (BARIC), said, “To compete in the ever changing and competitive world of travel, the Chinese travel industry needs advanced technology to better service the industry. Amadeus along with other global distribution systems (GDS) are actively entering the Chinese market, and we welcome the news that Amadeus has now been BSP certified for China enabling it to ticket in China.”

Amadeus’ IATA BSP certification follows approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in January, allowing authorised international airlines to be bookable via Amadeus in China.
