Visitors to Thailand Paid Per Night Average of THB 3,364 for Hotel

According the latest Hotels.com Hotel Price Index (HPI), tourists in Thailand paid virtually the same for their accommodation in 2013, compared to 2012, with a national rate of 3,364 THB. Koh Yao Noi recorded the most expensive destination at 9,519 THB per room per night.

There were mixed results to the average room price per night in 2013 across the country  with double-digit swings in both directions. The highest falls were recorded in Chiang Rai, down 23% to 2,307 THB, Koh Lipe down 14% to 4,433 THB, Pranburi down 10% to 5,177 THB and Koh Phi Phi down by the same percentage to 4,404 THB.

The strongest performance was recorded in Rayong, which rose 14% to 1,770 THB, followed by Koh Yao Noi’s increase of 9% to 9,519 THB, taking it to the top of the price table. Two destinations were up 8% with Koh Tao on 3.445 THB and Klaeng on 2,740 THB.

Looking at prices paid in some of the other most popular Thai destinations for overseas travellers, Phuket was on 4,100 THB, down 1%, Koh Samui slipped by the same percentage to 4,105 THB, Pattaya was up 3% to 2,720 THB and Krabi had the best result, up 5% to 3,591 THB.

Of the 25 destinations in the HPI, Songkhla recorded the lowest average of 1,517 THB, showing no change on 2012.

In Thailand, there was a mixed picture amongst the average prices paid by domestic travellers. Chiang Mai had the highest fall, down 11% to 1,970 THB with Hua Hin down 7% to 3,340 THB and Krabi down 3% to 2,973 THB. Bangkok saw a slight dip of 1% to 2,398 THB while Koh Samui saw no percentage change on 3,065 THB. On the other hand, Phuket was up 3% to 2,177 THB and Pattaya added 4% to 2,628 THB.

There are a number of popular destinations in Thailand such as Koh Phi Phi, Koh Samui, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai recorded decreases in hotel pricing which travellers could find some great deals in those destinations. Although there maybe impact of inbound travel to the country due to the recent protest issue, Thailand remains a very attractive travel destination for global travellers in long term.”
