ZU Container hotel group has opened a transit hotel at the low cost KLIA2 terminal in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The 3,300 square-foot hotel is the latest addition to the company’s portfolio, the first being the Container Hotel, located near Jalan Bukit Bintang.

“Travelling is fun, but without proper facilities to support the journey, the whole experience can easily turn into a frustrating affair, especially when travellers are going through transit and have a long wait for the next flight. That’s where Capsule comes in. It is designed to provide flexible, high quality and affordable accommodation for travellers to refresh and recharge on-the-go,” said Ryan Loo, Chief Executive Director of ZU Container.

Consisting 79 capsules, the hotel provides denominations of three, six and twelve-hour packages, priced at RM45, RM70 and RM90 respectively, which includes a locker, shower, lounge access, free Wi-Fi and a bedroom for patrons to refresh and rest before their next flight.

Guests are also given the flexibility to select specific services at à la carte rates, such as one time shower at RM15 or locker rental at RM20 each per day.

“The idea of utilising unused spaces for commercial use is a well proven business model globally. Capsule hotels around the world have received a great amount of response due to the idea of fully utilising available space around us. The use of recycled construction materials ensures environmental sustainability, and at the same time, allows us to provide affordable accommodation for travellers. Our bedding partner, Orthorest, ensures that guests will have a comfortable rest as well,” said Vincent Tan, Chief Design Officer of ZU Container.

The Capsule Hotel idea comes from the concept of “Kyosho Jutaku”, which in Japanese means living large on a tiny footprint, by building a nice and compact house utilising only a very small space.

Travellers are able to pre-book their rooms online or walk-in for the same price.

In conjunction with its grand opening, the hotel also announced a special rate of RM9.90 for the first 300 online bookings before 30 June 2014.
