Angsana Laguna Phuket has reinforced its commitment to supporting the Phuket community with a key initiative that is aligned with Banyan Tree’s Group Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) philosophy of “empowering people”.

Angsana Laguna Phuket has established the Angsana Youth Artist scholarship worth 200,000 THB, designed to support the next generation of creative thinkers and propel their careers by providing financial support to continue their education, enabling them to pursue creative opportunities in their chosen field.

The Angsana Youth Artist scholarship is divided into two scholarships for two selected students from Ratchapat Phuket University. Each scholarship will cover 9,000 THB for each semester throughout three continuous years, from the second year of university until graduation. Each student will also receive an approximate 46,000 THB for educational materials such as textbooks, stationery, and other relevant educational expenses.

The Angsana Youth Artist scholarship originated from a Charity Mural Project that was created to signify the opening of the resort in December 2011. The 14 sqm mural is made up of 350 tiles designed by renowned Australian artist Christopher Hogan who conducted art classes for young guests during the launch of Angsana Laguna Phuket’s Tree House Kids Club.

Each tile was a collaboration between Christopher Hogan and an individual Angsana guest who contributed towards the fund raising by participating in this activity. When combined, the individual tile created a unique collage in the distinctive purple hues of Angsana Laguna Phuket’s colours. Guests and visitors were able to sign the finished tiles to leave their permanent marks on the resort. With their support, a total of 200,000 THB was raised and will be used towards the “Angsana Youth Artist” scholarship where Christopher Hogan will be the mentor of the two students during the three year scholarship. The students will have the opportunity to intern at Angsana Laguna Phuket when Christopher Hogan returns to the resort to teach art classes at Tree House Kids Club during each summer.

Mr. Jerry John, General Manager of Angsana Laguna Phuket, said, “As a part of the Banyan Tree Group which has always had a strong CSR philosophy, we are very much committed to nurturing the youth. Our Seedlings programme strives to support underprivileged local children, and the “Angsana Youth Artist” scholarship forms an integral part of our endeavours to be agents of social and economic development by giving back to the community in which we operate.”
