Locatel has launched a new Set-Top Box
harnessing Intel’s expertise and the power of its latest Atom Dual
Core processor. A leading integrator of internet, mobile and TV
solutions for the hospitality industry, Locatel has developed the
new product to enable hotel guests to enjoy a wide range of
multi-screen features such as the Locatel Miracast service. “Despite the appearance of smart TVs, Locatel
has decided to sustain its investment into set-top box solutions,”
said Antoine Trannoy, Locatel CTO. “It brings an incomparable
flexibility in terms of architecture, services and scalability. Moreover, the power and features provided by dual core Intel Atom
Processor CE5300 (formerly known as Berryville) fulfill the need
for evergreen solutions during the typical five year cycle of an
IPTV solution in a hotel.” Keith Wehmeyer, General
Manager of Intel’s Set-Top Box division added, “Locatel is driving
innovation into the hospitality market and creating new TV and
mobile experiences that travellers will embrace.“Intel is proud
to have our dual core Atom CE5300 processor at the heart of the
Locatel STB.” Research indicates that more than 75%
of travellers carry at least two connected mobile devices, such as
smartphones, tablets and laptops with them. Everyday use of
devices has changed, and consumers are now often no longer on the go without
music, films or series content. In response to this
need, Locatel has designed a new Box with advanced integrated
convergent features. In addition to the standard interactive
services on a hotel room TV set, guests can now quickly and
intuitively share their audio and video content from their mobile
device directly on the TV screen. Miracast
integration in Locatel set-top box, online and offline content
mirroring on TV is now available from the latest Windows and
Android devices, through integrated Wi-Fi pairing. Bluetooth
integration also enables audio sharing from any mobile device to
TV. Thanks to its compact format of less than 15
centimetres width and length, the new Locatel set-top box has an
ideal form factor for a seamless integration in an hotel room.
Power consumption has also been reduced by 20%. As part of its continued efforts to achieve higher
industry standards, Locatel partnered with Assel for European
production. Complying with all regulatory standards (CE, FCC and
CCC), the Locatel new set-top box will be rolled out in all
Locatel footprint regions throughout Europe, Middle East, Africa
			  and Asia. Locatel
