The Town Planning Board in Hong Kong has approved the application submitted by Airport Authority Hong Kong for planning approval for the "Interim Golf Course (9-hole) with Ancillary Clubhouse Facilities" on a temporary basis.

After the expiry of the 10-year lease with the Golf Course operator in mid August, the AA will renew the lease on a three-month basis. When the long-term land use for the North Commercial District is confirmed, the AA will resume the land for development immediately.

Cissy Chan Ching-sze, Executive Director, Commercial, AA, said, "This arrangement avoids the land being left idle while we are finalising plans for North Commercial District's long-term development, and allows the facility to continue providing services and a green environment.

"We are keen to move on with the development of the North Commercial District and its planning work is expected to be completed in late 2013. In mapping out the development strategies, we will seriously and thoroughly consider all feasible uses including building offices, hotels, retail outlets and others," Ms Chan added.

Situated next to Terminal 2 with a total area for development of about 11 hectares, part of the North Commercial District is currently operated as SkyCity Nine Eagles Golf Course under a short-term leasing arrangement.
