Shangri-La Expands Portfolio of Hotels in China

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has just opened one hotel in China and will open another in a couple of weeks, increasing the group’s greater China portfolio to 43 hotels.

The Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu has opened in the historical hometown of Confucius, while Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang will debut on 15 August 2013 in Shenyang, the largest city in Northeast China and an important industrial base.

To celebrate the openings, both hotels have special offers that will be available until 31 December 2013.

Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu’s special offer starts from RMB788 per night for a Deluxe/River View Room and includes complimentary buffet breakfast for one person at the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant, 15% off on laundry, themed welcome amenities and late check-out until 3 p.m..

Valid from 15 August 2013, Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang’s opening offer starts from RMB1,128 per night for a Deluxe Room and includes a RMB300 dining credit per room per night that may be used at the hotel’s restaurants and bars (excluding in-room dining and the mini bar), welcome fruits, complimentary parking and late check-out until 3 p.m..

On top of these opening offers, Golden Circle (GC) members can enjoy a complimentary room upgrade and double or triple point rewards for a stay of up to three or more nights at either property. Non-staying GC members with qualifying spending can also earn double Golden Circle points, while 500 points will be credited as welcome bonus to new members who enrol online and make a qualifying stay during the opening promotional period.

Among the opened 211 spacious guestrooms at the Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu, the rooms and suites facing the Yi River are designed with balconies offering views of the old city wall, palaces of the Temple of Confucius and the hotel's traditional Chinese landscaped garden dotted with pavilions.

The hotel’s food and beverage facilities include Shangri-La’s signature Shang Palace Chinese restaurant serving Cantonese, Shandong regional Lu and re-imagined Kong (Confucius) Family cuisines; Café Kong, an all-day casual dining venue featuring international dishes; and the Lobby Lounge with its extensive tea menu.

Other venues include a 1,600-square-metre pillar-free Grand Ballroom with an outdoor terrace connected to the 680-square-metre ballroom foyer and seven additional function rooms.

Situated in the city centre, Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu is within walking distance to the Temple of Confucius, the Mansion of Confucius and the Cemetery of Confucius, which are UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Sites. Qufu, one of China's 24 government-designated historical and cultural cities, is only two hours from Beijing and three hours from Shanghai by high-speed rail, making it a convenient cultural excursion from either city.

Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang is Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts’ second property in the capital of Liaoning Province in Northeast China, joining Traders Hotel, Shenyang.

Shenyang is the largest city in the northeast and an economic powerhouse. A major industrial centre, it serves as the transportation and commercial hub of Northeast China, with connections to Japan, Russia and Korea.

Shenyang is also home to the only other existing royal palace in mainland China after the Forbidden City in Beijing. Drawing inspiration from Shenyang's Imperial Palace, Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang features 424 guestrooms offering panoramic city views and Shangri-La's signature amenities, including complimentary high-speed broadband internet and Wi-Fi.

Shangri-La's signature Horizon Club guestrooms occupy the top five floors of the building. The exclusive Horizon Club Lounge on the 30th floor offers city views from nearly floor-to-ceiling window and exclusive privileges, including complimentary breakfast, all-day refreshments and evening cocktails, and free use of the lounge's meeting room for two  hours per day.

The hotel is designed to cater to all types of meetings and events with 4,115 square metres of meeting space spread over two floors. The main 1,900-square-metre pillarless ballroom boasts a nine-metre-high ceiling and 600-square-metre pre-function area with floor-to-ceiling-windows offering views of the lush Qing Nian Park and the hotel’s landscaped garden. It is the largest hotel ballroom in Northeast China. The grand ballroom is complemented by a 566-square-metre ballroom and seven function rooms. All of the function rooms on Level 4 enjoy natural light and city views featuring Shenyang’s iconic TV tower, and one is connected to a 3,015-square-metre garden terrace.

Hotel restaurants include the top-floor Shinsen, the all-day dining restaurant Café Liao, and Summer Palace. Other facilities include CHI, The Spa with nine luxurious private suites, a rooftop tennis court, fitness centre, 25-metre indoor heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam bath.

Located on Qingnian Avenue in Shenhe District, the hotel is situated within walking distance to the city's prime shopping and entertainment area and is close to city government, consulate offices and exhibition centres. It is a 30-minute drive to the airport and 20 minutes to the city's two major train stations, which connect Shenyang by express trains to key cities.
