InterContinental Hotels Group will open its first Hotel Indigo resort hotel in Lijiang Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in south-western China’s Yunnan Province, this autumn.

Hotel Indigo Lijiang Ancient Town offers 70 guestrooms, a relaxation zone, the signature all-day dining Chama Restaurant, and tea lounge Chat, plus meetings and wellness facilities.

Hotel Indigo Lijiang Ancient Town is located within the 800-year-old Lijiang Ancient Town, also known as Dayan Ancient Town. The well-preserved enclave, famed for its tightly-packed ancient dwellings with sloping roofs, picturesque waterways and arched bridges, was an important trading hub on the ancient Tea-horse Trail that linked Yunnan and Tibet.

Lijiang’s mild climate made it a comfortable resting place for the merchant caravans, and the local Naxi ethnic people welcomed travelers with their colorful culture, costumes and cuisine, much as they do today.

“Lijiang has really arrived on the domestic and international holiday map and there is a demand for top-quality hotels and retreats. Hotel Indigo brings something totally different to the heart of Lijiang Ancient Town. We offer sophisticated travelers a culturally rich retreat that combines personalized service with traditional Naxi hospitality and ambiance, plus unique neighborhood experiences,” said Constance Cheong, General Manager of Hotel Indigo Lijiang Ancient Town.

Hotel Indigo Lijiang Ancient Town is styled as a modern ‘Post House’ along the Tea-Horse Trail, warmly welcoming adventurers from across the world. Its fresh, alluring design is infused with Naxi and Tibetan ethnic motifs and Tea-horse Trail references. Further design inspiration comes from the natural splendor of the surrounding landscapes, particularly the abundance of flowers and the permanently snow-capped Jade Dragon Snow Mountain that stands proudly over the town.

The 70 guestrooms are offered in different design themes with the Hotel Indigo Superior Rooms taking the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain as its inspiration, while Hotel Indigo Deluxe rooms embrace the horse theme with lighting fixtures and the clothes racks in the forms of horse shoes. Hotel Indigo Super Deluxe Rooms have the Horse Bell from the caravans as their central theme, while the one 360 sqm Hotel Indigo Presidential Suite takes the role of the host of the Post-house back in the day with each room inspired by the gifts that would be brought along the trail.
