New for the 2014 season, The Royal Scotsman is set to journey between the iconic cities of Edinburgh and London, exploring some of the very best of the United Kingdom and its famous cities and sights, including Sandringham House, Alnwick Castle, and the scholarly city of Cambridge.

A new three-night Majestic England itinerary will depart Edinburgh on 11 August and 8 September 2014. Stopping first at Alnwick Castle for a private tour of the home of the Duke of Northumberland and the Percy family for over 700 years, the Edwardian-style decadent carriages continue west across the rolling North Yorkshire Moors and visit the historic city of York before arriving in Norfolk. An exclusive private drinks reception at Sandringham House and Estate, the residence of Her Majesty The Queen, follows a leisurely stroll around the stunning grounds before re-joining the train for dinner and dancing on the mid-Norfolk Railway line near the peaceful town of Dereham.

From Norfolk, the journey south towards the English capital stops en route in Cambridge, home to one of the world’s most famous universities. Guests can try punting along the River Cam and take a peek at some of the distinguished colleges. Prices start from US$5,432 per person.

Meanwhile, a new four-night Classic Golf Tour has been introduced to the schedule departing Edinburgh on 18 May and 22 September 2014. Golf enthusiasts will be able to practice their swing at three of Scotland’s most prestigious and beautiful courses, Royal Dornoch, Castle Stuart, home to the Scottish Open for three consecutive years, and finally Cruden Bay.

An additional three-night stay at Gleneagles Hotel & Spa is available, offering the chance to play on the championship courses that will host the 2014 Ryder Cup. Back by popular demand, the Classic Whisky, Country Homes and Gardens, and the Grand Tour of Britain will complete the trips on offer throughout the 2014 season.

All journeys aboard The Royal Scotsman are offered on a fully inclusive basis.

A two-night stay can also be arranged at The Goring Hotel London before or after either journey priced from $671 per person on a bed and breakfast basis.

The train has the lure of a luxury country house party, accommodating just 36 guests in beautifully appointed en-suite cabins. The Observation Car is the ideal spot to sit back, relax and take in the views and retreat to after dining in the restaurant cars and taste some of the varied whiskies from the Bar, including the train’s exclusive collection.
