AirAsia X has launched flights between Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

The airline is now operating six direct flights weekly between the two major cities but will increase this to daily flights from 1 May 2013.

“Pudong International Airport is a key aviation hub for the Asia region which would further open up new affordable travel to guests tapping into Shanghai and its surrounding regions and connect to over 85 destinations offered by the AirAsia group across ASEAN and beyond,” said Azran Osman-Rani, Chief Executive Officer, AirAsia X. “We believe our presence in Shanghai would further solidify AirAsia group’s position in China, offering guests a more affordable travel option and greater flight connections and flexibility between ASEAN and China.”

Shanghai is AirAsia Group’s fourteenth destination in China after Hangzhou, Beijing, Chengdu, Guilin, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Nanning, Kunming, Wuhan, Chongqing and Xian including Hong Kong and Macau.

To celebrate the launch, AirAsia X is offering promotional fares to Shanghai from Kuala Lumpur from as low as MYR329 (CNY722) in Economy Class and from MYR899 (CNY1972) for its Premium Flatbeds. These special fares are available for online bookings until 3 March 2013 for travel before 31 July 2013. Terms and conditions apply.
