[HD video below] Jetstar is to launch flights between Perth and the Indonesian island of Lombok from 24 September 2013.

The new route will be the first non-stop service from Australia to the emerging tourism destination.

Jetstar branded airlines currently operate up to 150 weekly flights in and out of Jakarta, Bali, Medan and Surabaya.

“For a long time, Australians have loved holidaying in Indonesia so it’s exciting to introduce a direct service to a new and emerging holiday destination,” said Jetstar Australia and New Zealand Chief Executive Officer, David Hall. “Indonesia has always been an important part of the group’s international network and we’re committed to enabling new travel opportunities for visitors to Indonesia as well as Indonesians keen to explore the region.”

Jetstar will operate four flights each week to the island.

“We know from our experience that the introduction of a low fares carrier helps create new market demand and has a positive impact on the tourism sector,” Mr Hall said. “Lombok is the 62nd port for the Jetstar Group and this new route launch demonstrates our determination to provide more low fares to more destinations than ever before.”

The new service will be operated by an Airbus A320, flying on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday with a flight time of around 3 hours and 40 minutes.
