Asia-Pacific Hotel Development Report Issued

The Asia-Pacific hotel development pipeline comprises 1,840 hotels totalling 401,017 rooms, according to the June 2013 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report.

The total active pipeline data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages. It does not include projects in the Pre-Planning stage.

Among the Chain Scale segments, the Upscale segment accounted for the largest portion of rooms in the total active pipeline, at 25.5 percent and 102,250 rooms. Four other segments each made up more than 10 percent of rooms - the Upper Upscale segment (22.8 percent with 91,284 rooms); the Luxury segment (17.6 percent with 70,629 rooms); the Unaffiliated segment (17.0 percent with 68,342 rooms); and the Upper Midscale segment (10.7 percent with 42,970 rooms).

The Upscale segment accounted for the most rooms under construction in the region at 26.1 percent and 63,450 rooms, followed by the Upper Upscale segment (25.1 percent with 60,896 rooms) and the Luxury segment (19.5 percent with 47,423 rooms).
