The Krug Room at Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong Gets Makeover

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Videos Monday, 12 August 2013

In 2006, The House of Krug joined forces with the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong to create a very special restaurant, The Krug Room.

To celebrate the hotel’s 50th Anniversary, The Krug Room recently received a magical makeover.

Hidden deep inside Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, behind an inconspicuous doorway in the heart of the kitchen, The Krug Room boasts a tone of sophisticated intimacy that befits one of the best-kept secrets in the world of gastronomy.

Re-designed to re-create the intimate surroundings of a train carriage, boasting stunning views of a fast-moving kitchen, along with forward-thinking gastronomy, The Krug Room aims to ensure that guests get to experience a sensory adventure that is by turns fascinating, mesmerising and exhilarating.

The Krug Room is a 12-seat restaurant where diners can taste the unexpected as the drama heightens with the presentation of each new dish. It is here where Chef Uwe turns his passion for creativity into whimsical and spectacular gourmet creations. The result is a symphony of shapes, textures, colours and tastes that seduce the palate as they tickle the imagination.

Until October 2013 and afterwards on request, guests can enjoy a series of special dishes from the 1960s with a 21st-century twist, and to celebrate the re-design, Chef Uwe has created a series of new dishes that include Edible Branches Flower, The Lawn and Afternoon Tea.

Inspired by his experience of working for some of the world’s greatest chefs such as Alain Ducasse, Anton Mosimann and, most notably, Ferran Adrià at El Bulli in Spain, Chef Uwe delivers the unpredicted with a classical underpinning.

There are no menus in The Krug Room. Instead, Chef Uwe creates each evening’s dinner according to his inspiration, with the meal accompanied by the diners’ choice from the largest collection of Krug champagnes outside of France. Dinners vary from 10 to 14 courses. Various packages are priced as follows:

• Krug Grande Cuvée package, including two glasses of Krug Grand Cuvée – HK$2,288.

• Krug Vintage 2000 package, including two glasses of Krug Grand Cuvée and a glass of Krug Vintage 2000 – HK$2,688
