Archipelago International and PT. Sinar Global Investama have celebrated the groundbreaking for what is set to become one of Kupang’s largest hotel developments to date, the Aston Kupang Hotel & Convention Center.

The Aston Kupang Hotel has been conceptualized to become a leading international 4-star hotel in East Nusa Tenggara serving as a gateway and principal business hub to the Eastern Lesser Sunda Islands.

The new hotel will offer 179 guest rooms and suites including a lavish Presidential Suite and a conference center with a 1000 sqm pillar-less ball room and several auxiliary meeting rooms.

In addition the new Aston will feature 2 restaurants, a sky lounge with ocean views, and a wellness center with spa and outdoor pool.

With a population of approximately 400.000, Kupang is the principal city and administrative capital of East Nusa Tenggara. The city developed as an important trading port during the Portuguese and Dutch colonial eras and came to fame as the final destination of Captain William Bligh who was set adrift in an open boat during the Mutiny on the Bounty in 1789 just 56 nautical miles of Kupang.

With its proximity to Darwin, Kupang also serves as a popular port of entry for Australian tourists exploring the vast Indonesian archipelago.

Archipelago International’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Mr. Norbert Vas, said, “Kupang is the commercial hub for East Nusa Tenggara and has potential to become a regional MICE destination to be reckoned with. We believe that Aston Kupang fits into our strategy of developing up market hotels with well conceptualized conference facilities throughout several Indonesian provincial capitals and secondary cities which also underlines our confidence in East Indonesia.”
