Kosmopolito Hotels Appoints Giovanni Angelini as Independent Non-Exec Director

Kosmopolito Hotels International has appointed Mr Giovanni Angelini, aged 66, as an independent non-executive Director and as a member of the Remuneration Committee.

A highly regarded industry veteran with more than 46 years of experience, Mr Giovanni Angelini’s experiences spanned three continents particularly in Asia Pacific. He began his career in his native country, Italy before moving on to work in Switzerland, Bermuda, Grand Cayman Island, Canada, and the USA.

For over 14 years, he was with the Seattle-based Westin Hotels and Resorts, serving in various positions and countries, the last being Senior Vice President supervising the operating hotels and the development activities of the group in the Asia Pacific region.

In 1999, he joined the Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, an association which lasted over 16 years. During his tenure with Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, Giovanni Angelini held various senior top management positions including as Vice President Operations and as the company’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director as well as a member of the Board of Directors. During his leadership, the group has more than doubled in size, growing from 17 to 65 properties in 13 countries and regions; plus over 35 new projects under development in various getaway cities.

In his career, Mr Angelini has received many lifetime achievement awards including the Corporate Hotelier of the World Award in 2006, an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management by the Johnson & Wales University (Honoris Causa) in the USA and a Knighthood from the Italian government; amongst others. He also holds memberships of many industry-related organisations and quality management groups and is currently an independent consultant to the travel and tourism industry.
