Thailand-based Onyx Hospitality Group marked a key milestone in the development of one of its upcoming projects, Ozo Chaweng Samui, with a ‘ground breaking’ ceremony to mark the start of construction at the project site.

Located in the popular and central resort area, Chaweng, the new Ozo will be the first Ozo property in Thailand as well as the first Ozo resort for the brand.

Commenting on the proceedings, Peter Henley, Chief Executive Officer, Onyx Hospitality Group, said, “We are delighted to be breaking ground for the second Onyx property on the island of Koh Samui which, as a destination, continues to attract visitors from around the world. We are confident that our select service brand, Ozo will be a popular addition to the hospitality landscape on this popular resort island, offering comfortable and good value accommodation.”

Scheduled to welcome its first guests in early 2014, and set on a stretch of beach, Ozo Chaweng Samui will offer 208 guest rooms, a swimming pool, children’s pool, two restaurants and a beach bar.

Since the Ozo brand was launched in 2009, a number of key projects have been announced. The first ever Ozo property will launch in 2013, with Ozo Wesley Hong Kong. Two further management agreements have been signed with Sino Lanka Hotels Holdings for the development of properties in key Sri Lankan cities, Colombo and Kandy.
