New Navigation/Information Systems @ Munich Airport

At Munich Airport, thousands of passengers have already benefitted from the assistance of a new navigation system.

At six InfoGates throughout the airport, passengers or meeters/greeters are linked within seconds via live videoconference with a member of the airport information team who can answer most questions immediately. During the conversation, the two parties see each other as life-size screen images in real time.

In addition to that version with personal customer locations, another interactive system is available at 17 locations in Terminal 1. Here the user can retrieve information via touchscreen. For example, they can find out the quickest route to their departure gate, along with the estimated walking time. This system also offers information on the full range of services available at the airport and will soon be installed in Terminal 2 as well, extending InfoGate coverage to all relevant passenger areas at Munich Airport.

Last year these information pillars were selected for the prestigious international 2011 Good Design Award. The awards are announced annually by the Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in Chicago.

The InfoGate system, developed in-house by Munich Airport specialists, offers extensive information and navigation functionality.

Following the successful launch of InfoGate and the strong response, FMG has now established a new 100% subsidiary, InfoGate Information Systems GmbH which will market the system worldwide.
