Allwyn Drego Appointed GM of Montigo Resorts Nongsa, Batam

KOP Hotels & Resorts has appointed industry veteran Allwyn Drego as General Manager of Montigo Resorts Nongsa, a sprawling 12-hectare property located on the north-east shore of Batam Island, Indonesia.

Drego comes to the role with over 20 years of hospitality experience, during which he has managed a number of award-winning hotels in India as well as overseeing the launch of a major five-star resort in the Maldives.

As General Manager of Montigo Resorts Nongsa, he will be responsible for the overall operations and management of the 133 all-villa resort.

Allwyn Drego joins Montigo Resorts Nongsa from the TAJ Group of Hotels, where he was the pre-opening and opening General Manager of the Vivanta Coral Reef in the Maldives. Drego led the considerable undertaking of a five-star resort launch from the ground up. He oversaw the entire operation where he was personally involved in everything from hiring and training top talent and quality control checks.

Other career highlights include his stint as General Manager at the award-winning 142-villa and 56-acre beachfront Taj Exotica Resort and Spa in Goa, India, from 2005 to 2009, and Officiating General Manager of The Oberoi Amarvilas, Agra in 2004.

An Indian national, Drego holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Commerce from the University of Bombay. He is also a post-graduate of the esteemed Oberoi School of Hotel Management in Delhi, India.

In addition to his academic achievements, Drego has been accredited by a number of respected hospitality institutions including the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, the American Hotel and Motel Association and the Indian Institute of Management at Ahmedabad and Calcutta.

Outside of work, Drego is an accomplished hockey player, having played at national level. As a PADI certified diver, he hopes to continue this hobby in the waters around Indonesia where he now lives with his wife and two children.
