The Cape Panwa Hotel, Phuket, has signed a multi-year Title Sponsorship deal to name and host the Phuket Raceweek regatta, one of southeast Asia’s premier yacht racing events.

The event, from 18-22 July 2012, will now be known as Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek 2012.

Kasemkij Hotels’ Project Development Manager, Tirawan Pangsrivongse, said, “Nowadays, sports tourism – especially yachting – is an effective way to promote Phuket as Thailand’s premium tourism destination. By partnering with Image Asia Events, we get the opportunity to promote Phuket and Cape Panwa Hotel to our target market of premium local and international leisure and business traveler. So we are excited about being part of this international event and we look forward to showcasing Cape Panwa Hotel to regatta participants and media in July.”

Miss Thailand World 2012, Vanessa Muangkod, a native of Phuket, feels the 9th Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek not only promotes Cape Panwa Hotel as the title sponsor but also provides an opportunity to boost Phuket’s tourism industry. “Phuket has many beautiful attractions including idyllic tropical beaches, historic sites and a range of world-class accommodation, restaurant and entertainment options. We believe that these types of events will help promote these attractions to a wider international audience, enticing them to come and holiday on this magnificent island,” she said.

Image Asia’s Managing Director, Grenville Fordham, said, “This agreement means that we continue to race in the same waters in and around Chalong Bay that are so popular with regatta participants, that we keep our signature ‘one regatta, one venue’ format – and that we have security of venue beyond 2012. We have spent the last few months ironing out the details with their senior management to ensure that they, the regatta organisers, the participants and other sponsors all get the value they expect.”
