Fairmont Opens Willow Stream Spa in Shanghai

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Videos Wednesday, 9 February 2011

Fairmont has opened its third Willow Stream Spa in China.

The new 1008 square metre spa, at the Fairmont Peace Hotel on the Bund in Shanghai, is specially designed with spaces for socializing and quiet relaxation. It features an integrated fitness centre, a yoga studio, a sky lit indoor swimming pool, a tranquil reflexology lounge, nine single suites and two couples’ suites each with its own private hydrotherapy, bathing and lounging areas.

All therapies at Willow Stream Spa are “energy inspired” featuring international spa brands like Kerstin Florian and Aromatherapy Associates. Drawing from the glorious history of Fairmont Peace Hotel and the cosmopolitan character of Shanghai - past and present - the treatments incorporate time-honoured spa traditions, Chinese influences, and advanced techniques and products connecting one to the soul of Shanghai and of Fairmont Peace Hotel. These include:

Mystic Peace: According to feng-shui principles, the mystic knot appearing throughout the hotel’s ceiling panels is a symbol of protection, prosperity and longevity. Discover more of the same in this treatment, featuring a 90-minute massage that traces a continuous ‘knot’ on the body, alleviating tension and loosening muscles.

Spiral Aura: The spiral, a dominant motif in the hotel’s art-deco design, features significantly in this distinctive treatment for women. A spiral massage technique focusing on common ‘holding areas’ for tension - the centre of the shoulders, the small of the back, the hips, the solar plexus, the abdomen, the palms and the soles - relieves pent-up stress.

Willow Stream Elements: Discover the restorative power of nature’s elements: earth (mud wrap), air (organic aromatherapy), water (mineral bath) and fire (warm massage). This centuries-old traditional spa experience combines a medicinal Moor Mud wrap, therapeutic bath and organic massage with juniper, mandarin and fennel to stimulate and rejuvenate dry or maturing skin.

The extensive menu also offers advanced face treatments like Urban Lightening Facial, Pollution Solution and the Ultimate Caviar Facial.

The spa is also targeting men with a selection of treatments designed specifically – Handshake Treatment, Power Pedicure, Customized Barber Face Treatment – as well as a Bund Back Massage, Peace of Mind, and Fighting Fit.

There are currently three Willow Stream Spas in China. In addition to the Fairmont Peace Hotel, Willow Stream is in Fairmont Yangcheng Lake in Kunshan, and the Fairmont Beijing.
