InterContinental Hua Hin launches Thai Cooking Classes

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Videos Thursday, 27 January 2011

The InterContinental Hua Hin Resort has launched Thai cooking classes for guests.

Run by Chef de Cuisine at the resort’s Pirom restaurant, Arnon Kent Masanlong, the classes provide guests special insights into his experience and the legendary recipes he has introduced to the restaurant.

Chef Kent will take students from the resort on a morning trip to a Hua Hin market by speedboat where, under his guidance, they will select from the abundance of fresh seafood, caught that morning by local fisherman, before selecting the best of the fresh vegetables at the wet market.

Ingredients will be taken back to the resort where guests can cook spicy and aromatic recipes from Pirom’s open kitchens, meals that they will later dine on. Authentic dishes include stir-fried fillet of Garoupa in a chilli and sweet basil sauce, southern Thai-style oxtail soup and red curry with pork and tiger herbs.

InterContinental Hua Hin Resort General Manager, Andreas Pfister, said Chef Kent was the perfect host for the Thai cooking classes as he brings his passion for passing on his intricate knowledge of Thai cooking to guests at the resort.

“Chef Kent also conducts his classes in a relaxed atmosphere and brings his great sense of humour to the kitchen to put his students at ease while creating the signature dishes he and his team prepare our Pirom restaurant,” Mr Pfister said. “Guests can then take what they have learned back home and remember us the next time they are cooking one of Chef Kent's recipes.”

All students will be given an introduction to Thai ingredients, plus the basics of paste making and a comprehensive, easy-to-follow Thai cookbook of recipes they will learn in class. The cooking classes will take place on Wednesdays and Fridays between 08.00 and 14.00 hours.
