Lufthansa Appoints New General Manager for Singapore

Christian Altmann has been appointed as General Manager for Lufthansa Passenger Airline overseeing sales of the airline in Singapore, Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

Mr. Altmann succeeds Ms. Claudia Huegel who was appointed to take over a senior management role at the Lufthansa headquarters in Germany.

In his new capacity, Mr. Altmann will be based in Singapore and is responsible for Lufthansa’s sales and marketing activities in Singapore, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He reports directly to Mr. Uwe Mueller, Vice President for the Asia and Pacific region. Mr. Mueller is also based in Singapore and is responsible for the regional headquarters of the airline there.

Mr. Altmann has served with Lufthansa for over fifteen years. During this time, he has held a number of executive-level positions. Most recently, he was instrumental in setting up Lufthansa Services Thailand, the airline’s regional service centre employing more than 300 staff in Bangkok. In this role, Mr. Altmann was successful in launching an operation which was open to external airline customers.

Mr. Altmann started his professional career in 1996 with the Lufthansa Graduate Programme. In 1997, he moved to St. Petersburg, Russia to become head of Lufthansa Cargo there. From 1998 to 2002, he served as the Managing Director of the Joint Venture Cargo Terminal Pulkovo, also in St. Petersburg. In 2002, Mr. Altmann was relocated to Manila, Philippines assuming the position of Managing Director for Lufthansa’s ground services provider GlobeGround. From 2004 to 2006, Mr. Altmann was appointed the Regional Director for Lufthansa’s handling and logistics division covering India, Pakistan and the Middle East. Consequently from 2006 to 2010, he served as the Managing Director for Lufthansa Services Thailand.

Born in Hildesheim, Germany, Mr. Altmann graduated from Munich University in Germany with a Diploma in Politics. He completed part of his studies at Wolgograd University in Russia.
