Travelport to Distribute Germanwings Airfares

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Videos Friday, 1 July 2011

Travelport has signed a participation agreement with Germanwings, the growing airline based in Cologne, for the carrier’s content and fares to be available on all Travelport GDS platforms.

Flying to more than 75 European destinations, Germanwings flight schedules are now available to Travelport’s subscriber base of 60,000 travel agents worldwide.

E-ticketing capability for Germanwings is enabled by Lufthansa and all of the Germanwings fares distributed through the Travelport GDS channel include on board service and 20 kgs of free, checked-in baggage.

In April this year Germanwings implemented Travelport’s e-ticket database hosting service to store and manage electronic ticket data for online and interline e-ticketing. Hosted by Travelport’s Airline IT Solutions business, the ETDBase solution gives Germanwings the ability to process electronic ticketing messages.

Commenting on the distribution agreement, Stefan Betz, Head of Sales and Distribution at Germanwings said, “We have been working closely with Travelport in recent months – firstly to implement their e-ticketing solution and now to ensure our flights are made available to their extensive global network of travel agency customers. We value the way Travelport has been able to cater for our very specific needs and aligned the interests of a global, multi-GDS provider with the very special low cost distribution model established and promoted by Germanwings. We expect this cooperation to be a genuine win-win partnership.”
