Smiths Detection is to provide Lufthansa Cargo with X-ray inspection and trace detection units for security screening.

James LoBello, Lufthansa Cargo Head of Security, the Americas said, “We continued to join with Smiths Detection because of their strong reputation in creating rigorous and effective security screening technology. Complementing the already deployed equipment, the additional Smiths Detection’s X-ray and trace inspection units will help us to continue our pro-active approach to air cargo security. This investment in the Americas will allow us to expand our ability to more effectively and accurately screen for explosive devices at international airports.”

Lufthansa Cargo has bought multiple Smiths Detection HI-SCAN 180180-2is X-ray inspection units and IONSCAN 500DT explosives units to support air cargo screening throughout the Americas.

Dan Martel, Director Regional Sales for Smiths Detection said, “This combination of our X-ray unit and explosives detection device is ideal for air cargo screening because it creates a system able to detect a much broader range of threatening substances. Smiths Detection products are especially designed to meet the needs and applications of airports, customs facilities, transportation operations, carriers, parcel servers or wherever high security and total screening is required.”
